20 Soc. Housing

Santa Maria del Camí, Mallorca
Social Housing / Collective Living
1,500 m²
2025

This proposal for 20 social dwellings in Santa Maria del Camí reinterprets local building traditions through a contemporary lens. The design preserves existing trees to create a shaded public park and uses a bioclimatic gallery as a passive system
for light and ventilation. Load-bearing thermoclay walls – filled with site soil – eliminate the need for columns. Local marés stone façades blend seamlessly into the historic townscape, while reused timber, natural cork, dry Posidonia, and ceramic tiles form a palette rooted in place and ecology. Communal roof terraces
and a daytime-open green corridor connects residents to the town.

The central stair filters sunlight as it rises through the building, with automated textiles and windows adjusting to the seasons. Open yet protected, the spaces support comfort, dignity, and belonging – all while minimizing environmental impact.
