Germoglio

Milan, Italy
Educational / Campus Expansion
10,500 m²
2024

Germoglio is a concept proposal for a new educational complex
at Politecnico di Milano’s Città Studi campus. Designed as a place for learning, innovation, and growth, the building brings together classrooms, study pods, an auditorium, DASTU practice offices, and spaces for startups. A symbolic vertical rhythm defines the design: students at the base, graduates in the middle, and professors above – reflected in a grid that becomes lighter as it rises.

Inspired by Milanese modernism, the façade features precast panels in a metallic Ceppo di Gré tone, paired with a curtain wall system and steel structure. A suspended bridge auditorium presented the key structural challenge. The design opens the block to the city and includes outdoor terraces and flexible study areas, reinforcing the university’s mission of accessibility
and lifelong learning.
